| AirBorne’s S-LSA Plans & Registration ProcessOn December 20, 2005 the Australian equivalent of our FAA, the Civil Aviation Safety Agency (CASA), approved the US LSA standard for Australian use and authorized AirBorne to issue S-LSA “Statements of Compliance” for new XT trikes (the XT-912 and XT-582) based on the Australian/US bi-lateral certification agreements. Based on this authorization AirBorne expects to ship the first S-LSA certifiable XTs in February 2006. The X series documents (Redback, Outback, and Classic models) require more work to bring them up to the XT standards. However, AirBorne is already working these issues aggressively. So practically speaking, how does an aircraft become a registered S-LSA airplane in the States? To register a new trike as an S-LSA the following occurs:
At this point the aircraft is now a registered S-LSA and is treated as any other aircraft for the purposes of sale and new owner registration. When the dealer sells a registered S-LSA he provides the new owner with a Bill of Sale (AC Form 8050-2), which the owner submits with his AC Form 8050-1 (Aircraft Registration form) to transfer the aircraft registration to the new owner's name. |
